FAQ

High schools in Normandy: FAQ

Which high school in Normandy has the highest pass rate for the general and technological baccalaureate?

Lycée Sainte Marie in Caen (Calvados), Lycée Rey in Bois-Guillaume (Seine-Maritime), Lycée Jean-Paul II in Rouen (Seine-Maritime), Lycée Thomas Helye in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin (Manche), Lycée La Providence in Le Mesnil-Esnard (Seine-Maritime), and Lycée Fénelon in Elbeuf (Seine-Maritime), tied with a pass rate of 100% in the 2025 session, among high schools with 50 or more candidates.

What are the 10 high schools in Normandy with the highest pass rate for the general and technological baccalaureate?

In order: Lycée Sainte Marie (Caen, 100%), Lycée Rey (Bois-Guillaume, 100%), Lycée Jean-Paul II (Rouen, 100%), Lycée Thomas Helye (Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, 100%), Lycée La Providence (Le Mesnil-Esnard, 100%), Lycée Fénelon (Elbeuf, 100%), Lycée Saint Adjutor (Vernon, 100%), Lycée Jean Paul II (Coutances, 100%), Lycée La Providence (Fécamp, 100%), and Lycée Saint Francois de Sales (général et techno.) How is the pass rate calculated?

It is the share of candidates who sat the general and technological baccalaureate (baccalauréat général et technologique), the exam that concludes high school, at the session shown, and passed it, as published by the French Ministry of Education (rates are rounded). Only schools with 50 or more candidates are ranked. Pass rates depend heavily on the students each school takes in; value added, ranked separately, takes this into account.

What is value added?

Value added, calculated by the French Ministry of Education, compares a school’s pass rate with the rate that could be expected given its students’ profile (age, social background, prior attainment): +5 means five points above that expected rate, −5 five points below. It measures what the school adds, not the level of its students.
