Noisy-le-Grand, a large new town

Noisy-le-Grand, the fifth most populous town in Seine-Saint-Denis, owes its size to the new town of Marne-la-Vallée, of which it forms the first sector, east of Paris. A rural market town until the 1960s, it saw its population multiply within a single generation.

Mont d'Est, Abraxas and the RER A

From the 1970s onward, Noisy-le-Grand welcomed the Mont d'Est business district, a large shopping center and housing complexes with spectacular architecture, such as Ricardo Bofill's Espaces d'Abraxas, often used as a film location. The RER A, which connects the town to central Paris, supported this rapid growth. Unlike the inner-ring towns built up as early as the 19th century, Noisy-le-Grand retains vast green spaces and older neighborhoods of detached houses along the Marne, which gives it a more moderate density than most of the department's large towns.
