Pantin, a large town on the edge of Paris

Bordering northeastern Paris, on the other side of the Boulevard Périphérique and the Parc de la Villette, Pantin is one of the densest towns in Seine-Saint-Denis: its big-city population fits on a territory of barely 5 km², crossed by the Canal de l'Ourcq.

From industrial town to creative hub

In the 19th and 20th centuries, Pantin lived off industry, warehousing and transportation along the canal and the railway lines: the Grands Moulins de Pantin, a giant flour mill turned into offices, are its symbol. Over the past twenty years or so, the town has attracted creative studios, agencies and cultural institutions, such as the Centre National de la Danse, housed in a former administrative building, while new housing replaces the vacant industrial sites along the canal. Its population, long stable, is growing again, driven by the immediate proximity of Paris and by the metro that serves it.
