Issy-les-Moulineaux, a big city on a tiny territory

Bordering the southwest of Paris, Issy-les-Moulineaux ranks among the densest communes in France: it has the population of a large city on a territory of barely more than 4 km², along the Seine.

From the cradle of aviation to corporate headquarters

It was on the parade ground of Issy-les-Moulineaux that Henri Farman made Europe's first one-kilometer closed-circuit flight in 1908, earning the town its title as the cradle of aviation; the Paris heliport sits on its edge. An industrial town in the 20th century, Issy underwent a deep transformation starting in the 1980s: its factories gave way to the headquarters of major media, telecommunications and digital companies, and to new residential neighborhoods along the Seine. This makeover sharply increased its population, making it one of the inner-ring suburbs that have grown the most over the past forty years.
