Antony, the major city of southern Hauts-de-Seine

A subprefecture of the Hauts-de-Seine, Antony is the most populous town in the south of the department. Less dense than the towns bordering Paris, it owes its size to the gradual urbanization of the Bièvre valley along the Sceaux line, today's RER B.

A residential and student city

A farming village until the end of the 19th century, Antony was urbanized in waves: subdivisions of detached houses in the early 20th century, then large housing projects and apartment complexes after World War II. It is home to the Jean-Zay student residence, one of the largest university residences in France, built in the 1950s, and to part of the Parc de Sceaux. A mainly residential town popular with families, Antony has a population that holds steady at a high level, and benefits from its connections via the RER B and the A86 highway.
